- Accumulator
- A type of bet where all selections must win; similar to a parlay, used especially in soccer betting.
- Arbitrage
- Betting on all possible outcomes of an event across different bookmakers to guarantee a profit regardless of the result.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap system that eliminates the draw outcome and gives a fraction or whole number advantage to a team.
- Bankroll Management
- The practice of setting a budget for betting and deciding how much to stake on each wager to avoid big losses.
- Bet Slip
- The electronic record that lists your chosen bets, odds, stake, and potential payout before you confirm a wager.
- Bookmaker
- A company or person that sets the odds and accepts bets on sporting events.
- Both Teams To Score
- A market where you bet on whether both teams will score at least one goal during the match.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, either securing a profit or limiting a loss.
- Edge
- The perceived advantage you have over the bookmaker’s odds, often expressed as a percentage chance of winning.
- Futures
- A bet placed on an event that will be decided in the future, such as which team will win the World Cup.
- In-Play
- Bets placed after the match has started, with odds that update as the game unfolds.
- Juice
- The commission or fee that a bookmaker adds to the odds, also called the vig, which reduces potential winnings.
- Kelly Criterion
- A mathematical formula that calculates the optimal percentage of your bankroll to bet based on your edge.
- Lay Bet
- A bet that a particular outcome will not happen, typically used in betting exchanges where you act as the bookmaker.
- Moneyline
- A straightforward bet on which team will win the match, with odds shown as a positive or negative number.
- Odds Boost
- A promotion that increases the odds on a specific selection, offering a higher potential payout than normal.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be higher or lower than a set number.
- Parlay
- A single bet that combines two or more selections; all must win for the parlay to pay out, offering higher odds.
- Payout
- The total amount of money you receive when a bet wins, including your original stake and profit.
- Point Spread
- A handicap given to the favorite team to level the playing field, requiring them to win by a certain margin for the bet to win.
- Prop Bet
- A wager on a specific occurrence within a match, like which player scores first or how many yellow cards are given.
- Responsible Gambling
- A set of practices and tools designed to help players gamble safely, such as deposit limits, self‑exclusion, and age verification.
- Stake
- The amount of money you put on a bet, which determines the size of your potential winnings.
- Unit
- A standard amount of money used to measure the size of a bet, usually a small percentage of your total bankroll.
